Woods
Hole Group designed, built, tested and installed a real-time environmental
monitoring system for measuring currents and winds on the dynamically positioned
drill ship Trans-ocean Discoverer 534, working in the Gulf of Mexico.
The system sensors consist of a 75 kHz Broadband Acoustic Doppler Current
Profiler and a meteorological system. A PC, running Woods Hole Group
- developed real-time data acquisition and display software in the Windows
95 environment, displays and archives the data. The system also includes
a close-circuit television display, which is visible throughout the drill
ship on T.V. monitors showing a simple, easy to read, vertical current
display. Under an ongoing contract, Woods Hole Group engineers and
technicians provide periodic service and maintenance for the system on
approximately a quarterly basis, and download the data that has been collected.
Woods Hole Group scientists are then responsible for QA of the collected
data, and preparation of oceanographic data reports.
