MA -- Woods Hole Group, Inc. has announced the hiring of marine ecologist
John H. Gentile as senior Scientist in its Aquatic Environmental Assessment
group. Dr. Gentile comes to Woods Hole Group from the University
of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine Atmospheric Science, where, as a
member of the U.S. Man and the Biosphere Human-Dominated System Directorate,
he conducted research on watershed risk assessment and restoring the Florida
Everglades.
Dr. Gentile has held several positions at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where he directed programs on the ocean disposal of hazardous wastes and played a major role in developing EPA's Framework for Ecological Risk. As a visiting scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, he developed strategies for conducting ecological risk assessments in near-coastal environments. "Jack Gentile is an important addition to our team," says Woods Hole Group CEO David G. Aubrey. "He will serve as the scientific lead on the risk assessment projects for the company. We're fortunate to have Jack on board." Dr. Gentile is on the editorial board of the journal Human and Ecological Risk Assessment. He has authored numerous scientific papers on topics ranging from incineration at sea and ecosystem management to the ecological effects of climate change and ecological risk assessment.
