DO Study,
Mount Hope Bay, Rhode Island

Two full day surveys of water column properties were performed during summer around periods of neap and spring tides.  Each full-day survey consisted of four sampling surveys around slack high tide and slack low tide.  At each of 17 stations, two samples were collected, one from the surface and one three feet off the bottom, and analyzed for chlorophyll a, ammonia, nitrate plus nitrite, TOC, orthophosphate, total phosphorous and BOD (5-day). Coordination included the logistics of delivering 456 bottles in two trips over each of the 24-hour periods. Delivering the samples to the laboratory and insuring that all of the short-hold-time analyses were performed on time.  All analyses were performed within the holding times and the results were reported on time.  The survey was repeated for one 24-hour period the following summer.
