Woods Hole Group completed a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Restudy for the Town of Greenwich, CT. This project involved the preparation of run-up and erosion potential calculations for incorporation into the existing FIRM maps for the Town. The work was conducted using a geostrophic wind generation model coupled with a deepwater wave generation and propagation model to accurately predict the deepwater wave climatology offshore of Greenwich. A series of twenty (20) historical storms were simulated using the wind and wave models. The results of these models provided a range of deepwater wave conditions associated with storms of different return intervals. Additionally, the standard FEMA models, WHAFIS3 and RUNUP2, were used to estimate the nearshore wave transformation and wave runup elevations associated with the storms of different return intervals. The modeling results were used to construct a series of coastal flood profiles that were utilized to modify the effective FIRM. All mapping was conducted using a Geographic Information System (GIS) and submitted to FEMA as a digital FIRM. The Draft Report and FIRM were submitted to FEMA in March 1995, and were subsequently review by Dewberry and Davis.
